Version V2.1 has been developed to meet the needs of mechanical engineers involved in the design of electrical systems. The main new features included in Manatee software V2.1 are:

  • rotor eccentricity modelling (parallel & conical, static & dynamic)
  • modal basis import from Optistruct, including modal basis preview
  • Operational Deflection Shape (ODS) and Operational Force Shape (OFS) animations
  • NVH spectrogram per Load Case (spatiograms) for quicker troubleshooting
  • e-NVH calculation on the whole torque-speed plane based on current map

The following improvements have been made:

  • modelling of zig-zag skew
  • update of Quick Campbell diagram feature with different colors per orders, improving harmonic origin description and export harmonic table as .txt
  • load / save optimization of heavy data used for calculation (Magnetic Look-Up Table, modal basis, Wave Frequency Response Function etc.)
  • additional plots on magnetic flux and forces
  • global improvement of GUI and pictures rendering
  • easier set-up of e-machine (new winding definition algorithm using Star of Slots, optimization of DXF import, rework of rotor skew definition interface)

Version V2.0 is primarily aimed at electrical engineers*, so they can simply evaluate the electromagnetic noise and vibrations (e-NVH) performances of their electrical machine design. The main features included in Manatee software V2.0 are:

  • Preceding the simulation, a user interface to ease the definition of your own machine topology, among the two main machine types that are available: Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (PMSM) and Squirrel Cage Induction Machines (SCIM).
  • To set up the simulation, a user interface to choose between predefined workflows so you get e-NVH performances with the best trade-off between computation and accuracy, according to how far you are in the design process.
  • Following the simulation, a user interface to perform automated e-NVH post-processings such as noise spectrograms and order tracking analysis. Manatee V2.0 also provides a dedicated interface to mitigate noise and vibrations and implements a first reduction technique based on rotor skewing. Further reduction techniques will be implemented in future releases.

*Other versions will follow in 2021, integrating the corresponding models aimed at mechanical engineers (V2.1), acoustic engineers (V2.2) and NVH test engineers (V2.3).

Roadmap

The development program of Manatee V2 includes some baseline features fulfilling some key requirements of electrical engineers (V2.0), mechanical engineers (V2.1), acoustic engineers (V2.2) and NVH test engineers (V2.3) involved in the development process of electrified systems. Additional features will be developed during 2021 following customer feedback using Agile methodology.

Methodology

The Manatee IT team works under agile precepts. The Agile/Scrum precepts are the underlying assumptions concerning projects around which the Agile/Scrum methodology is based. For the work on Manatee software this means :

  • continuous development and integration
  • short term developments organized around sprints to meet the user’s need
  • regular releases to optimize existing functionalities, increase ergonomic and add new features
  • continuous development of tutorials and « how to » on Manatee website
  • a roadmap and communication based on feedback and transparency
